The Chinese artist Li Xiaoxuan (李孝萱) grew up in Hangu in western China, and studied art at the Tianjin Academy of Fine Chinese Painting Department, graduating in 1982. After working for a time in Tianjin Tanggu District Library, in 1985 he transferred to the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts, where he has been teaching Chinese painting and the history of art for more than thirty years. He is currently a professor at the Chinese Painting Department of Tianjin Academy, and a senior tutor at the Chinese Artists Association.

He is mostly known for his traditional Chinese paintings, though often with a tongue-in-cheek humorous twist.
