In 1993 Serpieri produced the first of three ‘Druuna albums’, Druuna X, which was followed four years later by this volume, Druuna X2. Both are clearly aimed at Druuna fans who want to see more – in every way – of their heroine, and contain a miscellany of drawings from Serpieri’s apparently inexhaustible portfolio of sketches, drawings and paintings of his favourite subject. Druuna X includes what is probably the most explicit and detailed sexual encounter sequence in all of Serpieri’s output, leaving the viewer wondering if this is the middle-aged artist’s idea of nirvana.

Scattered through the book are random quotations from classic French erotic writers to give the volume a little gravitas.

Druuna X2 was published by Heavy Metal.
