Though many of Zaccaria’s cartoons referenced sexual repression and double standards, he rarely ventured into the realm of truly erotic illustration, so this set of playing cards, published two years before his untimely death, is his only extended exploration of the genre. Cleverly using the four suite symbols and his boundless imagination, he created a memorable range of illustrations.

Eroticartes was published by J–M Simon France Cartes, who in the same year also published Zac’s Anamorphoses playing card pack, featuring anamorphic images together with a viewing tube, allowing the ‘wide-screen’ images created by the distorted versions on the cards to be seen correctly.
