This rare portfolio of Vadász erotic drawings, produced in a very small edition by a printer in Holland, is highly valued as the only collection of the artist’s work in this genre. As can be seen in this 1925 illustration for L’Assiette au Beurre, Miklós Vadász could be quite edgy in his mainstream magazine work, but his more explicit drawings were reserved either for discerning clients or for post-mortem posterity.

The twenty-five drawings included in Frissons cover a range of subjects, from the odalisque (the third drawing), which maybe provides a clue to his personal life at the time, to fantasy sex in a wide variety of settings.

We are very grateful to Hans-Jürgen Döpp for these images; Hans-Jürgen, the compiler of many books on erotic art, curates the Venusberg online gallery and bookshop which you can find here.
