Schem’s illustrations for Pierre Louÿs’ Les aventures du Roi Pausole place this idyllic naturist realm firmly in the 1950s, where overall tans, pointy breasts and new-fangled Brazilians are the order of the day. The king appears to be a city banker when he’s not busy reigning. As Pausole illustrations go, they are about the least convincing of all the illustrators’ work on this website.

The Schem-illustrated Roi Pausole was published by La Bonne Compagnie, Paris.
