This is the honesterotica blog, where every month or so we will post a thought-provoking article on a subject related to the content of the site.
Here are a few of the subjects that we are planning to cover; do feel free to suggest ideas of your own!
- Why is it that French writers, thinkers and illustrators dominate the genre? Is there really ‘une exception française’ – a uniquely 'French exceptionalism’?
- How should artists and illustrators handle the delicate subject of children and sexuality?
- The recent history of censorship and illustration.
- Where have all the good erotic illustrators gone?
- The role of illustration in good sex and relationships education.
- What does feminist erotic illustration look like?
- Does the visual imagination of extreme eroticism foster exploitation or mitigate it?
Welcome to the last of our ‘five favourite images’ blog posts, celebrating the goal of reaching 500 artists whose erotic work is now available on the honesterotica website (in fact 515 already!). This time it’s from our French friend Benjamin, who has already contributed his thoughts on what erotic art means to him – you’ll find those here. Thank you Benjamin.
Another set of favourite images, from Cees in The Netherlands.
Now you have just a few days to tell us about your favourites, so choose them today and head for the information about how to send your contribution, which you’ll find here.
Another set of favourite images, this time from Aly.
There’s still plenty of time to tell us about your favourite images, so choose yours today and head for the information about how to send your contribution, which you’ll find here. We’re all part of this important project, and your input matters …
More of our regular visitors have written to us with their five favourite images from the site, Georges and Sir Javier. You can see their choices below.
As anyone who visits this site regularly will know, the amount of material we have brought together over the years is pretty phenomenal – more than 500 artists, nearly 1,500 portfolios, and well over 50,000 images. We put a lot of effort into ensuring that our images are the best possible quality, often scanning them directly from the original printed sources.
It’s been less than a week since we invited you to tell us which of the thousands of images on the honesterotica website are your all-time favourites, and Dave is the first to respond, we hope the first of many. Here are his choices, and why they particularly please him.
Now it’s your turn! Your favourite five images. Please read the instructions here carefully, which will make our life much easier!
The addition of Eric Fischl’s work brings us to a new milestone in honesterotica’s evolution – there are now five hundred artists on the website! Still lots more to come of course, but it’s definitely an achievement worth celebrating.
From time to time we hear from an artist manqué who is so pleased and relieved to have found us that they are moved to write and express their gratitude.
Anyone familiar with erotic literature will know that the story of Gamiani, first published in 1833, is one of the classics of the genre, explicit, imaginative and amusing.
On to the third and final instalment of your contributions from our request to our followers to let us know what sort of erotic art works best for them. Thank you again for everyone who responded to the call for input.
