The second of the René Boylesve novels to be published by Baniyan and illustrated by Bécat was Le pied fourchu (The Cloven Hoof), a fanciful romance featuring nymphs, satyrs and devils alongside its human cast. First published in 1927, a year after Boylesve’s death, it is another useful vehicle for Bécat’s trademark scantily-clothed women.

The Baniyan edition of Le pied fourchu was published in a limited numbered edition of 550 copies.
