Juarez Machado has made art his life, an inexhaustible source of love expressed in an extensive and brilliant career. With his trademark authenticity and a wry sense of humour, he is recognised in Brazil and abroad for his many unmistakable creations, rich in details, features and colours.

A painter and multimedia artist, Machado is the author of several books published as non-text narrative. In architecture and design he has worked alongside Sergio Rodrigues, Caio Mourão, Oscar Niemeyer and Paulo Caze. He has created cartoons, and written illustrated columns in a wide range of print publications including O Pasquim and Jornal do Brazil.

On Globo TV was part of the creative team producing humour and music video shows. He has created costumes and produced scenarios for theatre and television, where he also acted. His mimic character on the weekly television show Fantastico was one of the best-known features of Brazilian television during the 1970s. In cinema, the art of Juarez Machado has inspired several artists and directors, including the French filmmaker Jean-Pierre Jeunet in the award-winning Le fabuleux destin d’Amélie Poulain, which won five Oscar nominations in 2002.

Juarez Machado is constantly involved in new productions, dividing his time between his three studios in Paris, Rio de Janeiro and Joinville.
