This portfolio records Haring’s first exhibition in Italy, held at Galleria Lucio Amelio in Naples in May 1983. Unlike the colour screenprints of Fertility Suite, these works are black and white lithographs, their restricted palette putting the emphasis firmly on Haring’s line. Figures, body parts, phallic forms, faces and repeated signs are built from the same energetic contours that he used in his drawings.

The images do not form an illustrated story, but accumulate through repetition. Sexuality appears through explicit anatomy and encounters between figures, while Haring’s characteristic visual shorthand makes the scenes ambiguous enough to move between eroticism, humour, aggression and bodily transformation. The recurring radiant baby and other familiar symbols connect these images to the larger vocabulary he was developing at the time. The lithographic format preserves the immediacy of Haring’s drawing practice.

The portfolio was produced as a limited edition of 300 copies in collaboration with Galleria Lucio Amelio and Amelio Editore, Naples, and printed by La Buona Stampa di Ercolano.
